Hear the waves at night. Walk to an uncrowded, untamed beach in 5 minutes. Feel the sea breeze and take in sweeping views of mountains, lush farmland, sunset, glimpse of the ocean and starry night skies from a rooftop deck. Buy locally grown, organic produce close by. Enjoy the quiet that comes with a prime location in Todos Santos’s safe, sought-after La Cachora neighborhood.
Casa Solana is a modern, well-built 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom Baja home on its own lush, gated, gardener-tended 1,000-square-meter (quarter-acre) lot graced with flowering, tropical plants. It’s a perfect home base to explore nearby “Pueblo Magico” Todos Santos, with its many festivals, artisan shops, art galleries, fine restaurants and taco stands, and that innumerable tourist attractions throughout sunny Baja California Sur.
Casa Solana includes thoughtful touches such as high ceilings, large outdoor palapa-shaded sitting areas with ceiling fans, a well-stocked kitchen with modern appliances, solid-wood doors, plenty of windows to admit the sea breeze, ample closet space, high-quality sheets, spacious full bathrooms, parking, and an outdoor shower with heated water.
The second bedroom/bathroom is upstairs and reached by an outdoor stairway and has its own palapa-shaded sitting area and kitchenette. Further upstairs is the viewing deck. Casa Solana’s design is ideal for parents traveling with teenagers who want their own “space” upstairs.
Ecotourism in Baja California Sur’s ideal climate
The Todos Santos area has much to offer the ecotourist, starting with its sunny desert-tropical climate featuring warm days (mid-70s to mid-80s F / 24-30C) tempered by a sea breeze and comfortable, cool nights (low to mid-60s F / 16-20C) 9-10 months out of the year – think: San Diego meets the tropics.
Local activities include swimming, sea kayaking, horseback riding and hiking. Protected swimming beaches are within 20 minutes by car, including surf spots at Cerritos (surf lessons available, Mario Surf School), San Pedrito, Las Palmas or La Pastora beaches. The local Sierra de la Laguna mountains, which rise to more than 6,800 feet (2090 meters) and include a Biosphere Reserve, offer hiking, backpacking and hot springs. La Paz, an hour away, offers opportunities to swim with seals or whale sharks in the gorgeous Sea of Cortez; in Los Cabos, also about an hour away, snorkeling, sea kayaking and surfing are possible.
A note on the nearby beach
At Playa Punta Lobos (aka Playa Tortugas or La Cachora Beach), an easy walk from Casa Solana, powerful Pacific Ocean swells may rise from deep water and hit the beach with great force. Swimming on this beach is not advised unless you are a confident, experienced swimmer and the waves are less than 1 meter (3 feet) in height. In these smaller conditions, you will want to get quickly past the shore break to enjoy swimming at local beaches or any unprotected Pacific beach in Baja California Sur.

Note: Casa Solana has air conditioning downstairs. From apprx. Nov. 1-Aug. 1, Todos Santos’s special, sea breeze-cooled climate makes A/C unnecessary. During the ‘Chubasco’ season which appears during Aug.-Oct., the weather becomes very warm and humid. Casa Solana is equipped with numerous fans, and its rental rates are much lower during Chubasco season.
